ChicShelf was founded in Portland, Oregon by Elena Marchetti, an interior designer who grew frustrated with the gap between stylish home décor and genuinely functional storage. After years of custom-building shelving for her own design clients, Elena launched ChicShelf in 2018 with a simple mission: make every wall count.
Today, our team of 18 designers, craftspeople, and installers serves customers across the United States. We source premium hardwoods, powder-coated steels, and sustainable materials to create shelving systems that feel at home in any space — from cozy studio apartments to expansive suburban houses.

Our shelving systems are engineered for drywall, plaster, concrete, and brick walls. Each order includes the appropriate mounting hardware — toggle bolts for hollow drywall, sleeve anchors for concrete, and specialized fasteners for plaster. We also provide a wall-type questionnaire during checkout to ensure you receive exactly the right hardware for your home.
Our standard floating shelves support 40–75 lbs per linear foot when properly mounted into studs or with our included anchors. Heavy-duty options (rated for up to 120 lbs per linear foot) are available for kitchens, garages, and library applications. Every shelf listing specifies its weight capacity so you can choose with confidence.
Absolutely. While our core collection includes 20+ sizes and 8 standard finishes (walnut, oak, matte white, matte black, natural birch, charcoal, navy, and sage), we also offer fully custom dimensions and color-matching. Custom orders typically add 7–10 business days to production time and carry a modest 15% surcharge.
Yes — we partner with a vetted network of installers in over 60 metro areas. Installation typically runs $120–$350 depending on the scope of work. Alternatively, every ChicShelf product ships with a detailed installation guide, QR-linked video tutorials, and a placement template to make DIY installation straightforward.
We offer a 30-day return window for all standard (non-custom) products in original condition. Return shipping is on us for exchanges; for refunds, a flat $15 return label fee applies. Custom orders are final sale but are covered by our 5-year craftsmanship guarantee against defects in materials or workmanship.
